Rambo
The La La Land main actor actually struggled with ADHD during his younger days. He shared in his interview with Company Magazine that he got suspended at school for throwing steak knives randomly during their recess time. This happened after Gosling watched Sylvestre Stallone’s movie, Rambo, in which Gosling stated that he actually thought that he was Rambo and that he was in a movie which led him to do such acts.
Because of this, he got evaluated and that was when they learned that Ryan has ADHD. His mother quitted her job to homeschool Ryan. Aside from getting suspended, Ryan was also constantly bullied in school and he had a nickname called Trouble. After what Ryan did in school, he was no longer allowed to watch any violent films. Ryan was also unable to read when he was younger. He was prescribed to take Ritalin, a medication to treat ADHD. Furthermore, he was also placed in a special-needs class.
Getting into TV
Gosling then tells Daily News that when he was a child, he became lonely and the television was his only friend. When Ryan saw the Muppet Show, he was immediately drawn to Raquel Welch, and she became his first crush. Ryan thought of ways on how to meet Raquel and he was determined to meet her. He realizes that she’s on the television, which made him think that he must get on Television to meet her.
Acting Debut
When Ryan was 12, he made his acting debut in Disney’s show, The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. His breakthrough film was The Notebook because it is when many film directors casted him in upcoming films. The Director of the Notebook, Nick Cassavetes, casted Ryan as Noah Calhoun, the main character in the Notebook, because Ryan seems like a “regular guy who looks a bit nuts”.
