If you haven’t watched “You”, a television thriller series on Netflix, Victoria Pedretti plays the character of Love Quinn, a terrifyingly loving wife to Joe. She is a skilled actress, specializing in Drama. In 2020, Pedretti opened up about her struggles with ADHD and the stigma it carries.
Younger days
As early as six, Pedretti was diagnosed with ADHD. She accepts her condition and refuses to be labeled with ADHD as she felt that it did not suit her, this is according to her interview with Glamour UK.
The doctor told Pedretti that she won;t be able to read and write well, and that she has a higher rate of incarceration, drug use, and medical problems. She was also told that she will be having a hard time living a healthy lifestyle. When Pedretti knew about this, she knew and accepted that the way she thinks and processes information will be affected and will be different among others.
However, she further states that it was damaging to her to know about these things at her age because it didn’t help in how she defines herself. It only made the people around her make assumptions and make her feel like they had the answers already without considering what she felt.
While getting diagnosed helped in understanding Pedretti’s condition, the downside was she was having a hard time feeling empowered with her identity. Many people assume all people with ADHD are incapable and have a hard life. Moreover, these assumptions attached to ADHD do not help in empowering individuals with ADHD. Hence, Pedretti refuses to be labeled as someone with ADHD due to the assumptions and stigma it carries. However, she openly accepts her condition and is candid about it.
