The Panic! At The Disco’s frontman, Brendon Urie, actually struggled with ADHD from a very young age. From his first year in school until he was 13 years old, Brendon was undiagnosed of ADHD, and his teachers didn’t know what was wrong with him. Brendon Urie recalls in his interview that every week teachers would be calling his mother and asking “How much sugar do you give your child. Your child, you need to get something on him or give him something to calm him down.”
Going through with this, Brendon’s mother brings him to a child psychologist. Brendon shares that on his first visit with the doctor, he was immediately bouncing off in the doctor’s room. He also remembered that he would be asking “what’s that?” about every object in the room, and he would also act sad, and then a few moments later he would say it was just a joke, and that he is really happy. After the child psychologist saw him, the doctor told him that he has a strong case of ADHD. With this, Brendon was under medication for his ADHD, and he took this for a year. He admits that he did not like the effect of the medications on him. In Brendon’s Urie’s own words, he says
“It freaked me out. I didn’t like who I had become cause it’s like—for me this is what it was like—I was not the same for everybody but for me it was like I’m inside this body and I’m watching myself behave a certain way and there’s nothing I can do about it and it was terrifying.”
In an online live show he did, Brendon talked with fans and talked about his ADHD. A fan asked Brendon what tips he can give for anyone out there who is struggling with ADHD. Brendon says
“Don’t be disparaged, you know? Don’t feel like you’re defeated because I know it’s easier to get angry when you have ADHD, when the frustrations come on very quickly, so as long as you don’t give into amazement if that makes sense, you know what I mean? My parents kinda said that.”
Aside from ADHD, Brendon was also diagnosed with Anxiety by the same doctor that diagnosed him with ADHD. With this, it came to a point where he had to take multiple pills. Brendon shares in a casual online live stream with fans that there was a moment during his tour in Australia with Panic! At The Disco that he just didn’t want to take the pills and medications because it only made him numb and scared. Brendon emphasizes that he didn’t like who he was becoming when he’s on medication. Brendon states that he doesn’t recommend for everyone to do the same as he did on throwing his medications and stopping it, but he only did it as this was what he thinks was good for himself.
“I knew I had to do that for myself. I knew that in order for me to get better, I had to get away from this pharmaceutical thing that was literally killing me. I wasn’t progressing as a person—I was stuck in this thing, and I couldn’t change the way I acted or felt. It’s very scary.”
When Brendon stopped taking his medication, he says in an interview in Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music that he says that he’d rather cope with ADHD, rather than numbing it and losing himself. Brendon also claims that he did not become detrimental to anyone and that he was able to control and be mindful of his actions as he has ADHD.
Right now, Brendon shares that his choice of stopping his medication has now a positive effect because he uses all his energy to expel by creating his music which is great.

Being unaware of things can often lead to us hurting them without knowing anything. Thanks for allowing us to learn from this.
I didn't know Brendon Urie had ADHD, it just proves that you may look fine on the outside, but deep inside someone might be struggling with something. So let's be kind to one another because we do not know who's carrying something heavy. Death of A Bachelor was one of my favorite songs of P!ATD though, still love it up to this day!
