My ADHD Story: SZA

Solana imani Rowe or also known as SZA, is a well-known neo seoul R&B artist of the present generation. SZA voiced her struggles with ADHD on Twitter, but for those of you who do not have one, SZA actually has ADHD. She is taking Adderall, a medication to treat ADHD. However, she has also been complaining about the struggles of taking the said drug because it prevents her creativity in making her music.

SZA has unmedicated ADHD, and further shares that she often doesn’t recall what she’s supposed to do due to ADHD. In an interview from 2017, SZA shares that her ADHD affects the way she writes her music because ideas come and go so fast in her mind. She shares that sometimes her brain would ask, “Where did it go?”

Regardless of this, she is still thriving and is recognized as one of the well-known and well-respected creative artists today. Rowe also shares that people today still lack the empathy about ADHD. As such, much needed awareness among persons with ADHD is needed to break the stigma in society about ADHD.
